Stories From the Road: Kelliher Visits South Central College, Grandview Nursing Home
ST.
PETER, MN – On day three of her “No Stone Unturned” jobs tour, DFL-endorsed
candidate for Governor Margaret Anderson Kelliher visited South Central College
in Faribault and Grandview Good Samaritan Nursing Home in St. Peter. Kelliher
stressed the need for a highly trained workforce, and quality nursing care for
Minnesota seniors.
“Hard working people across Minnesota are paying their taxes and playing by the rules – but they aren’t getting the jobs and opportunity they deserve,” said Kelliher. “As Governor I will leave no stone unturned to get 214,000 Minnesotans back to work. I will wake up every day and do everything it takes to create jobs in this state. That’s what this jobs tour is all about – it’s why I’m running for Governor.”
While addressing teachers, students, and supporters at South Central College, Chris Gamer, a sales associate for a solar heating and electric design company in Faribault stood up in the crowd and thanked Kelliher for her focus on clean energy jobs. Gamer attributes his job to the work Kelliher has done in the legislature.
“I called you during the legislative session, and you listened to me and my story,” Gamer said to an auditorium full of applauding supporters. “It proved to me that people in government really are listening. You really are responsive to our concerns. I have a job today because of it, and I just want to say thank you.”
Later in the afternoon, Kelliher met with nursing staff and residents at Grandview Good Samaritan Nursing Home in St. Peter. Kelliher has stood up for nursing homes over the last 12 years, fighting to protect Minnesota seniors from devastating budget cuts.
“The health and quality care of our parents and grandparents have to be a top priority in this state,” said Kelliher. “Minnesota needs a Governor who will stand up for senior citizens and the hard working people who care for them every day. I will be that Governor.”
Even in the face of record budget deficits, Kelliher’s leadership put seniors first – preventing deep cuts to nursing homes from Tim Pawlenty.
Kelliher is traveling the state laying out her blueprint for job creation in Minnesota. As Governor, Kelliher will bring jobs to every Minnesota community by:
- Bringing $1.4 billion home from Washington for good-paying jobs in hospitals and clinics
- Invest in high-priority infrastructure projects at places like South Central College
- Expanding and growing small businesses through low-interest loans and better access to capital
- Educating Minnesota’s workforce for the next generation of jobs
- Encouraging new innovation in science, biotechnology, and high-tech development
- Reforming DEED from top to bottom to more aggressively create and retain jobs in Minnesota
- Growing the clean energy economy with investments in green manufacturing and retrofitting
In addition to the jobs blueprint she has laid out Kelliher is gathering input from workers, business owners, and Minnesotans around the state – leaving no stone unturned to get Minnesota back to work.
Kelliher will travel to Hinckley tomorrow to talk jobs with union workers at a Local 49 training facility. She will hold a town hall meeting in Richfield Thursday night to gather input on her jobs blueprint, and collect new ideas for job creation in Minnesota.
