Minnesota Needs A Jobs Budget
MINNEAPOLIS, MN – DFL-endorsed candidate for Governor Margaret Anderson Kelliher had this to say about the projected $5.8 billion budget shortfall.
“After balancing the budget four times, I know this is more than a math problem. Our budget is about setting priorities based on Minnesota values: good jobs, great schools and safe communities.
“What my opponents don’t understand is that Minnesota’s number one budget problem is our lack of jobs. That’s why I am fighting to get Minnesota back to work.
“With 208,000 Minnesotans out of work, and thousands more working harder and earning less, the challenges facing our state are serious. These challenges require honest, stable leadership. Minnesotans need solutions, not slogans.
“Mark Dayton’s plan to raise taxes on middle class families and senior citizens, and Tom Emmer’s plan to slash schools, health care, and police and fire services are unrealistic and irresponsible.
“That’s why I am focused on delivering a balanced, realistic solution based on Minnesota’s highest priorities – good jobs, great schools, and safe communities.
“As Governor I will make those earning more than $250,000 to pay their fair share. I will demand an end to sweetheart deals that shelter tax dollars overseas, and close foreign corporate tax loopholes.
“As Governor I will fight waste, fraud and abuse against state government. I will make necessary budget reductions while protecting students from cuts in the classroom, senior citizens in nursing homes, and basic essential services for Minnesota’s most vulnerable.
“And as Governor I will use temporary budget tools to transition our state to long-term economic stability.
“Our state needs stable, honest, experienced leadership – and a Governor who will never quit, no matter how hard it gets. Minnesota needs a Governor who will bring people together to solve the problems Minnesotans are facing. I will be that Governor.”
