Margaret knows education is the foundation to a strong economy. Investing in Minnesotans is the key to attracting and expanding businesses that will create good-paying jobs.
Margaret believes every child deserves to have a world-class education. She attended and graduated from Mankato public schools, and her two children, attend Minneapolis public schools.
We must give every child a good start in life, ensuring they are ready to learn when they start kindergarten. This means that all children should have access to high-quality early education programs. Research shows that investments in early education programs yield a high return of $8 for every $1 invested, in addition to having a lifelong positive impact on a child’s success in school. As governor, she will work with public and private partners to develop a funding mechanism to ensure access to high-quality early education programs for children from low-income families.
Margaret knows the best way to ensure our students receive a world-class education is by ensuring we have high-quality teachers in our classrooms and administrators in our schools. As governor, she wants to inspire teachers to teach, so they can inspire students to learn. She believes we must continue to set high standards, and pay our teachers well in return for their achievements.
As a parent, she understands how important it is to be involved in her children’s education. Both she and her husband, David, play a significant role in their children’s success in school. That’s why she wants to set the example that encourages more parents to become involved in their children’s education.
She also knows that there are a lot of good things going on in Minnesota schools that sometimes goes unrecognized. She wants to promote promising programs, so more students can benefit from them. As governor, Margaret will ensure that every school has the resources
they need to prepare our students in math and science for a 21st century
economy.
Margaret is committed to investing in education. As Speaker, she worked to successfully increase school funding by $51 per student. But she knows the fight to protect and increase school funding cannot end here.
Margaret is an ardent supporter of the New Minnesota Miracle – a comprehensive system for reforming how we fund education. The system will provide stable, equitable funding for our schools, while providing substantial property tax relief.
