Watch Margaret's Second TV Ad!

Dear Friends,

Minnesotans deserve a Governor who is on their side – someone who will wake up every day and fight for them. As Minnesota’s next Governor, I’ll serve you. Watch our new ad here.

For eight long years, Minnesota has had a Governor focused on his presidential ambitions rather than our students, seniors, and working families. Republicans like Tim Pawlenty and Tom Emmer have forced property taxes through the roof and left our state with a gaping budget deficit.

Stories From the Road: DFL-endorsed Kelliher Continues No Stone Unturned Jobs Tour in Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – DFL-endorsed candidate for Governor Margaret Anderson Kelliher continued her No Stone Unturned jobs tour today in Minneapolis. Kelliher was joined by Minneapolis Mayor RT Rybak at Summit Academy OIC. Summit Academy is an adult vocational training facility in North Minneapolis that trains adults in Twin Cities’ low-income neighborhoods to prepare them for jobs in highly skilled fields.

“What is happening here at Summit Academy is changing lives, giving hard-working Minnesotans the training they need to pursue good-paying careers in the trades,” said Kelliher. “As Governor I will do everything it takes to get Minnesota back to work – one job at a time. Programs like this are the right place to start.”

Summit Academy trains minority and female workers to become carpenters, plumbers, community health workers. Kelliher says Summit Academy’s efforts are helping narrow the state’s widening opportunity gap.

DFL-endorsed Kelliher Comments on June Job Numbers

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) released new jobs numbers today. The unemployment rate dipped to 6.8 percent in June. But much of that drop was due to 14,000 unemployed Minnesotans giving up the job search.

Employers cut 3,700 jobs last month – which were mostly short-term census jobs that came to an end. The construction trades lost 900 jobs, as did the manufacturing industry. Average number of hours work also declined in June.

DFL-endorsed Kelliher Talks Education in Rochester

ROCHESTER, MN – DFL-endorsed candidate for Governor Margaret Anderson Kelliher met with teachers today in Rochester to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing Minnesota students. Kelliher is a working mom with two kids in public schools.

“A great education is the foundation of a strong economy,” said Kelliher. “Minnesota’s educated workforce has always been our state’s best competitive advantage.”

But Kelliher warns that without bold leadership, Minnesota’s nation-leading schools could slip into mediocrity.

“As a mom I know the challenges Minnesota students are facing,” said Kelliher. “Our schools face limited resources and growing class sizes. Minnesota’s achievement gap is the second-worst in the nation, and only half of our students come to Kindergarten ready to learn. In Minnesota, that’s just not good enough – our kids deserve better.

Kelliher's Letter Regarding Minimum Wage, Standing with MN Servers

Dear Friends,

Yesterday, I stood with Minnesota servers and called for a long-overdue increase in the minimum wage. As your Governor, I won’t rest until we get 208,000 Minnesotans back to work, and deliver for hard-working people the wages they deserve.

That’s the difference between my Republican opponent Tom Emmer and me.

Last week, Tom Emmer told Minnesota servers they make too much money. He said there should be a tip penalty that could cut hourly wages to as low as $2.13 for Minnesota servers. Make no mistake: what my opponent has proposed is no different than stealing tips off the table.

Margaret's Remarks From Tuesday's Press Conference with Minnesota Servers

Thank you Lissi. Thank you for standing up for hard-working servers across Minnesota. And thank you for standing with me as we stand up to Tom Emmer.

As your Governor I will wake up every day and fight for you. I will be on your side. And I won’t quit until 208,000 Minnesotans are back to work earning a good wage to support their families.

That’s the difference between me and my Republican opponent Tom Emmer.

Last weekend, Tom Emmer told Minnesota servers he thinks they make too much money. He said we ought to have a tip penalty in Minnesota – a tip penalty that could cut wages to as low as $2.13 an hour.

Make no mistake: what Tom Emmer proposed is no different than stealing tips off the table. And if you think this tip penalty was just a slip of the tongue, think again. After serving with him in the legislature, I’ve come to expect this kind of extreme behavior from Tom Emmer.

Why Lissi Corbett, a Server From St. Paul, is Supporting Margaret Anderson Kelliher

Good afternoon everyone! My name is Lissi Corbett. I live in Saint Paul, and I’ve worked as a server for over a decade. I’ve got news for Tom Emmer: I am not overpaid, and I do not make 100,000 dollars a year. I was angry when I heard about Tom Emmer’s proposal to lower the wages of servers throughout Minnesota, and I quickly found that I was not alone.

We need a governor who understands what it means to work for a living.

We need a governor who will fight for working people.
We need a governor who will work to raise our standard of living, not lower it.
We need a governor who looks forward, not backward.

That’s why I want Margaret Anderson Kelliher to be the governor of Minnesota—because I am confident that she will work for us. That’s why I started a Facebook group called Minnesota Service Industry for Margaret Anderson Kelliher—so servers throughout the state could easily come together and support a candidate who will support them.

I am not here to speak negatively about Tom Emmer, but I will say this: I wouldn’t vote for him if he gave me 100,000 dollar tip.
